Introduction
When a platform delivers real operational impact, the next challenge is making sure it looks and feels as strong as it functions. That’s when the team at DataMills realized they needed a design partner.
DataMills is a logistics and administrative information management platform built to serve large-scale industrial operations. But while the infrastructure was robust, the brand and user experience felt outdated. What they needed was a modern and mature redesign to match the serious, high-impact work their platform enables.

The Problem
DataMills wasn’t trying to reinvent their product, they knew it worked. But their primary audience is more traditional, and often less comfortable with complex digital tools. The experience needed to be simplified, modernized, and more visually aligned with their users’ expectations.
Key issues:
- Brand inconsistency: The existing brand guide was limited, with only one logo format and missing core color specifications.
- Overly technical feel: The visual language and typography felt too “techy” and cold, misaligned with their audience.
- Poor scalability: The UI relied heavily on text-heavy screens, making it hard to navigate.
- Disconnected design system: There wasn’t a scalable visual system to unify future product updates and communication channels.
What We Discovered
To guide us, we used Nielsen’s 10 Heuristics as a foundation for usability. These well-established principles helped us assess the old interface, identify usability issues, and ensure we were designing a more intuitive, consistent experience for the new platform.
Our process combined insights from user research with these best practices to highlight key opportunities for improvement, such as:
- Simplifying user flows to reduce cognitive load
- Aligning language and structure with real-world conventions
- Designing for error prevention and easy recovery
- Improving usability that has been hindered by visual overload.
These insights guided both the branding and product redesign, helping us create a visual system that’s clean and functional.
What We Did
Our focus was to keep the solid infrastructure while transforming how the platform looks, feels, and communicates.
From logo redesign to a more intuitive interface, every detail was designed to reflect trust, efficiency, and modern professionalism.
Visual Identity
Brand Guide
We started by developing a comprehensive brand guide that provided clear specifications for the use of the brand’s visual elements.
Moodboard

Logo
The logo is bold yet minimalist, reflecting the platform’s professional and reliable image. It’s designed to scale well across various platforms while maintaining clarity and brand recognition.

Visual Communication
The overall visual communication reinforces DataMills’ new modern identity. Logo patterns were used to create a recognizable and unified visual identity, both online and offline.

UI/UX Redesign
We used the existing product foundation but cleaned up the experience. The redesigned interface features simplified layouts with more white space, reducing cognitive load and making navigation more intuitive. We established a clear text hierarchy and added visual indicators to guide user actions and highlight key data points. By relying less on icons and decorative assets and more on structure and contrast, the interface became easier to read and interact with.

Design System
We built a clean and consistent design system to support ongoing product growth.

Redesigning DataMills was about creating a unified visual and product experience that truly reflects the platform’s mission: simplifying complexity for industrial teams that need fast, reliable, and intuitive tools.
